The different models of kingship. The clan-king and the Philosopher King (20/2/17)

The two main sorts of kingship are the Jewish/Celtic Clan warrior prince and the Greek Philosopher King. However, Solomon was a wise king and Alexander a warrior king.

The Irish High Kings were always front-line soldiers.

In modern times representative democracy and a president have taken the place of both types of king.

As St Paul writes, “The Jews want miracles and the Greeks want wisdom".As modernism fades, old forms of government have crashed back on to the stage of world history.

Democracy and civilisation too will fade.(4.1.2022.Note: While the election of Joe Boden brings hope of an end to militarism and imperialist barbarism, one swallow does not make a summer).

The notion of a clan king brings to mind visions of gold (Sp. /Far.,real), (G. reim, riail) ,(Ar. riyal) But in fact that is where there is little similarity between primitive communism which prevailed in almost all countries up until 600 BC apart from Mesopotamia and China.

The Celtic clan-king or chieftain lived in a straw hut like all other members of the gens and was given the place of honour at banquets and in politics, law and warfare.

There was gold ornamentation but no coinage in Celtic lands. This remained the situation for the Earls until their defeat in 1691 A.D.

No currency, no wealth.

This was primitive communism.

"Der Radius dreht eine volle Zirkel."(F. Engels) or as those accused say, " What goes around comes around " (C. Morris).

The head of state like the head of a family has too great a burden placed on their shoulders for it not to be shared with Prime Minister and family.

23.10.2020

A heavy burden of proper superintendence of affairs of state and the well-being of subjects is placed on a sovereign or head of state which is too much to be borne by one person alone and must be shared with family and advisors. If the latter is the case, the memory of a wise and sagacious ruler is of a life well-lived.The proof is longevity.

As someone whose family name features in Irish legends, let it be said that no amount of historical plaudits or scholarly ecclesiastical manipulation can stake a claim to something long gone, namely a Big Chief for this country...

There is no way my name can be erased from the history books by drunken homosexual perverts like Brian Heuston or Joe Maguire of the St. Vincent De Paul Society or a tramp such as Sheen or Morgan from Roscommon and Down respectively. Like all halfwits full of cheap Dublin pisswater, they eventually leave Ireland or feign death to get away frtom their creditors...

Nothing can stop a bull of a man apart from an armed man something Sean Lynch proved to Roy Kells' and the Belfast IRA proved to Scots Presbyterians and members of the British Army and RUC. ..

The apoplexy of nonsense connected to military leadership i.e.'kings' was crafted in the 1860's not in Ireland but in Britain. No-one is ever hopeful of attaining complete control unless he is a fascist dictator. Not even Stalin exercised that power. In the case of the Soviet Union,it was the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union which appointed a Political Committee, the Politburo. The CC appointed a Central Control Committee which prosecuting those who 'slandered socialism',an offence more like blasphemy or desecration of a church in the Middle Ages. We have learned that fact since the 1970's.

A hoary old myth put out by nationalists such as Davis and Di Boucicault in the 1860's and retailed by pop artists as late as 1978 until history showed that the celebration of kingship leads to the prolongation of armed conflict and ruins young lives. Incipient civil war is answered by blatant miscarriages of justice such as the Guildford 4 and numerous other cases of injustice, arbitrary law and police brutality.

What cannot be denied is that some in the Irish government fuelled the Northern conflict with military training in Louth Leitrim and Donegal.

The Northern conflict only came to an end when European Peace and Reconciliation Funds became available.

No kingship, therefore,only an honorarium.

An Irish High Kingship?

A creation of priests and poets which never existed...there were many clans, groups of families, which occupied the role. Only one thing we can say for certain,it stood at the titular head of a barbaric, primitive and infinitely fissiparous society.

The duration of the fleeting phenomenon of an Irish Big Chief?

No more than the blink of an eye!

..

DEMOCRACY, therefore,NOT VIOLENCE.

Regarding the trite, hackneyed old concept of a royal kingship anywhere. All things must pass. Even the Universe will one day disappear into the black hole fringed with luminescent orange at the centre of the Galaxy.

De cives militis (8/2/17)

The need for a militia as Europe is overrun and swamped by its mortal enemies is a particular priority in politics at this moment.

National defence has been neglected in the last decade.

The South has grown rich and decadent.

I propose a Civil Defence Corps for the North. This militia would be based on
Aid to the Civil Power and formed of Trade Union Battalions, Catholic Battalions and Protestant Battalions. To avoid sectarian recrimination and catcalling it should be led by a three man Military Collegium headed up by a trade union general drawn from the workers’ battalions.

Such a system restores the moral and economic and social fibre of society and is a preparation for the world of duty, work and service.

The militia system must be based on universal conscription with exemptions for Conscientious Objectors. There should be no women in any militia or armed body of men which takes itself seriously.

Can there be a measure of democracy in an "armed body of men".

Ireland's view is skewed by PDFORRA and past experience in another organisation.

This is a truly difficult question to answer and would certainly trouble the Wisdom of Solomon.

There is no easy answer other than to write that the resolution of serious questions requires calmness and restraint.

Discipline and organisational restraint therefore and a universal recognition that some people and women are not suited to military service...

That said,I see no obstacle of any credible weight to the election of officers on the basis of effective antecedents with an obligation to serve and obey certain rules... Trotsky's dictatorial and intemperate methods and flawed strategy are not to be copied...

2.2.2021

Of course, in an age such as ours when the pendulum swings violently between nuclear confrontation and hand-wringing peace deals there is no alternative to strong defences though those in command must be accountable to the courts, something that is not largely present anywhere because of Indian intervention and the Catholic Church's role as a mediator and civil society  reportage.
