America

America has exported its factories as a ploy to keep a coterie of client states and dependent allies.

The United States is no longer solvent. It finances itself by international credit.

It is an exhausted and ruined country whose governments compete for the support of the self-employed workers, soldiers and farmers.

China has become a competitor with the US.

The US desires to lay siege to China and it did so to the USSR also.

The US unlike in the 1950's does not have 48% of the world's manufacturing capacity and cannot match China by means within international law....

The US controls a similar percentage of economic activity in my estimation to what it controlled in 1948 BUT that economic activity is not carried on within its own borders and does not yield any revenue to the US exchequer....

It cannot be taxed in its new location and by the American government without endangering the solvency of US businesses abroad.

It would seem that while the US is still a great power,it no longer is as strong relative to the world total of manufacturing capacity as it was in 1948.

Why put this disinterested observation on a website dedicated to cora cinnuna, the ways of sense?

Because the US is trying to punch above its weight.

If the US continues to build the means of war, death and destruction, there will not be enough to renew fixed and floating capital nor pay its workers enough to live on and the US will by imperial design enter a downward spiral of decay and economic exhaustion.

"Sic transit gloria mundi " or "All good things come to an end" (The ' world drama' or 'play', July-August 1988, Dublin).

.....

When the Americans depart from Ireland to pastures new, they will have left a lasting legacy of hate, violence and intolerance, those being the distinguishing features of all imperial ages.

However, with them will depart the concomitants of imperial rule. I refer to prosperity, the system of justice and arbitration and any trace of standards in high office. One of the first signs of neoliberalism in Ireland was the closing of the psychiatric hospitals because even forty years ago,the US was concentrating its civilising influence on fewer countries. Reagan was a man who brought cross-party harmony between Unitarian  and Federalist and between rich and relatively poor.

With the inevitable retraction of US imperial reach will come that ability to dominate trade and commerce. Commerce? Yes, because industry has given way to commerce such as e-trade. The Americans are not making things as others have to do by virtue of lack of atavistic urges and military capability.

Sic transit pax americana and Gloria Hiberniae.

Ireland will be as before,an out-station of England. England is as others have said the "eternal source of all our woes".
